Each October, the United States celebrates Italian American Heritage Month, honoring the Italian American community’s valuable contributions to American history and society.
The Consulate General of Italy in Miami wishes to thank the institutions of Florida and throughout its jurisdiction that have expressed, in many different ways, their friendship toward Italy, the Italian nationals living and working in their territories, and the Italian American communities that thrive there. These expressions of friendship acknowledge the communities’ extraordinary contributions to the history, development, and material and spiritual progress of the United States of America.
Among this year’s recognitions and initiatives, we highlight:
Palm Beach County – Once again, the County paid tribute to the Italian American community by presenting the Consul General with an official proclamation recognizing October 2026 as Italian American Heritage Month during a public meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The ceremony was followed by a wonderful reception organized by Commissioner Maria Sachs, a distinguished Italian citizen and Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, former Mayor of Palm Beach County and former Florida State Senator.
City of Tallahassee – Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey presented our honorary consular representative, Todd Kocourek, with an official proclamation recognizing the Italian American community’s contribution to the city’s vitality and dedicating October to Italian American heritage.
Orange County – The Board of County Commissioners recognized October as a month honoring Italian American history, heritage, and values, presenting Honorary Consul Antonella Brancaccio with an official proclamation.
City of Naples – On October 15, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled a new statue of Christopher Columbus in the presence of Consul General Michele Mistò. Held as part of the America250FL celebrations marking the United States’ 250th anniversary, the ceremony represented a meaningful recognition of Italian American heritage. In his remarks, the Consul General highlighted Italians’ contributions to Florida’s economy, culture, scientific research, and entrepreneurship, recalling the shared values that unite our countries and communities.
Long live Italy and long live the United States.
