The 26th edition of Italian Language Week in the World (SLIM) will take place from October 19 to 25, 2026, under the theme “A Language of Genius: Imagining, Designing, and Creating with Italian.” To mark this important occasion, the Education Office of the Consulate General of Italy in Miami, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, has organized an extensive program of cultural, artistic, and educational initiatives for students at all educational levels throughout the consular district.
Among the highlights is a series of official school visits organized in partnership with Miami-Dade County. We are visiting schools that offer Italian language programs, observing classes firsthand, and meeting with school administrators and teachers to strengthen educational cooperation.
Special attention has also been given to younger students, with free language workshops and special projects for schools that introduced Italian this year, including Nautilus Middle School and South Elementary. Creativity has also found expression in “Art is Inflatable,” an interactive inflatable art exhibition organized by Italian artists and offering special admission discounts for students.
The program brings together contemporary forms of expression and tradition. Miami high schools and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton have welcomed renowned rapper and philosophy teacher Murubutu for sessions combining lectures and live performances, transforming literature into rap poetry. The Italian Cultural Institute in Miami also hosted an engaging session on science and the sea, led by underwater explorer Alberto Luca Recchi, for students from Carver, Coral Gables, and Saint Brendan middle schools. Meanwhile, the University of Miami hosted screenings of Italian films for high school students.
The initiatives also include art and poetry workshops and a creative competition open to all schools. The competition invites American students to produce original works—from comics and videos to articles and songs—inspired by real or imagined interviews with distinguished Italians, historical figures, or characters from fairy tales, celebrating the vitality and richness of Italy’s heritage.
