GENERAL INFORMATION

The School Office of the Consulate General in Miami is part of a network dedicated to the development of cultural cooperation between Italy and the United States, operating in the United States under the coordination of the Italian Embassy in Washington.

In the consular district of Miami, the office is active in promoting and disseminating the study of Italian language and culture in the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Marteen, St. Eustatius, Saba, the US and British Virgin Islands, the Caymans, and Turks & Caicos.

ACTIVITIES

The School Office is responsible for coordinating and supervising language and culture courses and all related initiatives. To this end, it supports schools interested in including our language in their curriculum and public or private schools that promote a bilingual curriculum.

INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES

  • to promote language and culture courses in collaboration with local schools, Italian-American associations, and cultural and educational institutions;
  • to establish collaborations with the Departments of Education of the relevant states and school districts, aimed at introducing Italian language programs in local schools in synergy with teachers’ and parents’ associations;
  • assist professional associations of Italian teachers in improving language teaching programs;
  • organize training and refresher courses for teachers, together with Italian and local universities;
  • participate in conferences on teaching Italian as a second or foreign language or as a world language.
