Theft or loss of passport

To submit a claim of theft or loss of passport to the Italian Authorities, the Italian national can come to the Consulate Monday through Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., with the  lost/stolen report . It is also necessary to add the local Police report.

Emergency Travel Document (ETD):

If you find yourself abroad in an emergency situation (for example, if you are a tourist in transit and need to leave but have lost or had your passport stolen) and you do not have the means or time to request the issuance of a new passport, the Italian diplomatic-consular representations, present both in Europe and in non-European countries, can issue a provisional travel document (also called an E.T.D. – Emergency Travel Document).

The Consulate can issue an Emergency Travel Document (E.T.D.) within 7 days of departure if you appear in person, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (no need of appointment), with the following documentation:

  • 2 passport pictures;
  • copy of passport (if available).
  • identity document (if available);
  • copy of purchased airline ticket;
  • money order of $1.80 (Until 09/30/25).
