Authorization for children under the age of 14 travelling alone or with persons other than parents

Italian minors under the age of 14 who are traveling with an Italian passport without their parents or those exercising parental authority must have an accompanying document, which is issued by the Consulate.

Parents may present themselves to request this document Monday through Friday (except Thursdays), from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. without appointment with the following documentation:

  • accompanying authorization signed by both parents (form);
  • copy of the minor’s passport;
  • copy of both parents’ passports (page containing personal identification details and holder’s signature);
  • copy of the passport of the accompanying person(s);
  • airline ticket.

If one of the parent is a non-EU citizen, it is always necessary for him/her to come personally to the Consulate. If he/she is unable to do so, his/her signature on the authorization form must be authenticated by a Notary Public.

Should the non-EU citizen parent be outside this consular district, he/she should go to the nearest Italian Consular Office in the U.S. or abroad or, if in Italy, to the Police Headquarters.
