November 4 is celebrated in Italy as “National Unity and Armed Forces Day”, commemorating the end of World War I. By commemorating its Fallen, Italy on Nov. 4 remembers the Villa Giusti Armistice (which came into effect on Nov. 4, 1918) that allowed Italians to return to the territories of Trent and Trieste and bring to completion the process of national unification that began in the Risorgimento era.

On this solemn occasion, the President of the Republic laid a wreath at that time on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Altar of the Fatherland. In a message to the Minister of Defense, the President of the Republic recalled that “the Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces that we celebrate today is a moment of remembrance and expression of the country’s gratitude for what citizens in uniform did, fighting to make Italy an independent and free Nation, inspired by democratic values and peace. The contribution of the Armed Forces in more than a century and a half has been invaluable in affirming our country’s international role. With great professionalism and humanity, over the past decades, they have intervened, on behalf of the international community, in relief of populations and in contexts where it has been urgent to work for peace. […]

On this day, a moving thought goes out to those who have fallen, sacrificing their lives for Italy. It is a sentiment that calls especially on the younger generations to be aware of the need for commitment to defend the values of our Constitution.”

Italian diplomatic-consular Representations around the world commemorate this important Day and honor it. Even in Miami, in the Consulate and outside, we honored our Armed Forces, celebrating the courage and self-sacrifice to the point of sacrifice of our military personnel.

In particular, in Miami Lakes, as per tradition, our Carabiniere marched together with other members of the National Association of Carabinieri on Leave in a military parade, carrying Italy’s name high in Florida as well.
