Next Wednesday, October 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute (209 Altara Avenue, Coral Gables) we will celebrate the second edition of the “Day of Italian Sport in the World.” At the center of the evening will be two great champions, close to the hearts of all of us Italians and admired by sportsmen and sports fans around the world: Danilo Gallinari and Alex Giorgetti. We will have the pleasure to listen to their testimonies, to understand their approach to sport, life and sacrifice, and to reflect together on the so-called transformative power of sport and, in particular, how in contemporary society a career as a champion can teach values such as merit, inclusion, discipline and loyalty. It will be a wonderful opportunity to highlight the Italian contribution to world sport. Sport is at the center of the world, of everyday life as well as on special occasions, mobilizing resources and arousing interest everywhere and no matter what. And Italian sport has a special place in the world. You are all invited to discuss it together, and to discover how our lives, as individuals and as a society, are better thanks to sport and those who devote their lives to it. We look forward to seeing you. To register: iicmiami.segreteria@esteri.it

Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, and Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, presented the Second Edition of the “Giornata dello Sport Italiano nel Mondo” last September 8 in Rome.

This year’s edition is dedicated to the theme “Mountain and Sea” and anticipates the major international sporting events of 2026 in Italy: the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto.

“The lesson of sports is clear: you win only by being a team. Italy is a great team that grows, competes and dialogues in the world just as it does in sports […]. Moreover, the great events we recount are exceptional opportunities in all respects, economic, social and cultural,” commented Minister Tajani, who recalled how sport generates 24.7 billion in added value in Italy, employing more than 400,000 people and contributing 1.38 percent to GDP. Moreover, the export of sports goods, 4.7 billion, places us among the top 5 exporters in the world and the second in Europe. The Milan-Cortina 2026 Games are in fact a unique opportunity: 5.3 billion in economic impact, infrastructure legacy estimated at 3 billion, a widespread Olympics that will enhance different territories and be at the center of an international promotion campaign. Instead, the Taranto Games will strengthen Italy’s role as a sports and cultural hub at the center of the Mediterranean.
