While in Atlanta for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Marco Peronaci, Italy’s Ambassador to the United States, held a productive and cordial meeting with Hon. Mayor Andre Dickens as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between Italy and the State of Georgia, one of the most economically significant states in the U.S. Southeast.

Georgia is home to approximately 90 Italian-owned companies and accounts for nearly $3 billion in annual trade with Italy. Thanks to its strategic location, world-class logistics infrastructure, and Atlanta’s role as the region’s leading economic hub, the state offers significant opportunities for cooperation with Italian businesses in manufacturing, transportation, technology, and innovation.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest and to reaffirm the shared commitment to further deepening the already strong relationship between Italy and Georgia.

Alongside the business community, Georgia is also home to a vibrant Italian presence and a well-established Italian-American community that actively contributes to the state’s economic, professional, and cultural life. The Atlanta metropolitan area serves as the primary hub for Italian entrepreneurs, professionals, researchers, and executives operating in sectors ranging from international trade to logistics and technology.

The Italian community within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Miami continues to grow significantly. In 2026, approximately 71,000 Italian citizens are registered with AIRE (the Registry of Italians Residing Abroad), compared to approximately 66,000 in 2025, representing an increase of 7.6 percent. More than 6,000 of them reside in the State of Georgia.
