On this occasion, a lecture and a conversation will be held at the Italian Institute, in collaboration with the American Jewish Committee Miami and Broward.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event, scheduled at 6:30 p.m., aims to emphasize the importance of memory as the foundation of democratic and civil values. The keynote speaker is\u00a0<strong>Gino Segr\u00e8<\/strong>, celebrated Italian American physicist, who will present his book\u00a0<em><strong>The Golden Age of Italian Jews: 1848\u20131938<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Paul Dry Books, 2025).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this work, Segr\u00e8 explores the historical role of the Italian Jewish community between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries, a community that left a significant mark on Italian society, \u201ceager to prove that the faith the country had shown in their\u00a0<i>Italianit\u00e0\u00a0<\/i>(Italianess) was fully warranted\u201d. As evidence of this, Segr\u00e8 recounts numerous stories of women and men who distinguished themselves through their professionalism, civic engagement, and love for Italy, fighting in World War I and later opposing fascism, often facing serious personal sacrifices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The history of Italian Judaism thus becomes a lesson in determination and resilience, patriotism and courage, but also a warning against indifference and oblivion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nephew of physicist Emilio Segr\u00e8, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1959, Gino Segr\u00e8 (Florence, 1938) is himself Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Pennsylvania.
