To register a divorce decree issued by a foreign court, it is necessary to send by regular postal mail the original copies of the following documents:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Request for registration of the divorce decree, completed in full using the designated form and including the complete details of the former spouse: Request for divorce registration<\/strong><\/a>;<\/li>\n
  2. Substitute declaration in lieu of affidavit, to be completed and signed using the following form: Declaration for divorce registration<\/a><\/strong>;<\/li>\n
  3. Final Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage<\/em> (sometimes referred to as Final Judgment of Divorce<\/em>), complete certified copy. This document must be obtained from the court that issued the divorce decree;<\/li>\n
  4. Full Italian translation of the Final Judgment<\/em>, following the structure and formatting of the original. The translation may be completed by any translator (link to the list of translators);<\/li>\n
  5. Apostille of the Final Judgment<\/em>, issued by the competent public office of the U.S. State or foreign country where the document was issued (link to the list of offices that issue Apostilles<\/a> <\/strong>). Apostilles issued by notaries (notary public) cannot be accepted for registration;<\/li>\n
  6. Statement of No Appeal<\/em> issued by the court that granted the divorce. This document is mandatory and does not replace the Final Judgment<\/em>: both documents must be provided<\/strong>.
    \nAs an alternative to the Statement of No Appeal<\/em>, a Certification of Record of Dissolution of Marriage<\/em> may be requested from the Vital Records Office of the State or country where the divorce decree was issued.
    \nIf neither of these documents (No Appeal<\/em> or Certification of Record<\/em>) can be obtained, it is possible to request from the court that issued the decree a declaration similar to this:     link<\/strong><\/a> (personal data have been redacted for privacy reasons);<\/li>\n
  7. Full Italian translation of the Statement of No Appeal<\/em> (or the Certification of Record of Dissolution<\/em> \/ court declaration) mentioned above, following the structure and formatting of the original. The translation may be completed by any translator (link to the list of translators);<\/li>\n
  8. Apostille of the Statement of No Appeal<\/em> (or the Certification of Record of Dissolution<\/em> \/ court declaration), issued by the competent public office of the U.S. State or foreign country where the document was issued\u00a0 (link to the list of offices that issue Apostilles<\/a><\/strong>). Apostilles issued by notaries (notary public) cannot be accepted for registration;<\/li>\n
  9. Photocopy of the passport of the Italian citizen submitting the request.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
