ENROLLMENT IN ITALIAN UNIVERSITIES
ADMISSION OF FOREIGN CITIZENS TO DEGREE PROGRAMS AT UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER ARTISTIC, MUSICAL, AND DANCE EDUCATION
Please be advised that the website of the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research (MIUR) (http://www.istruzione.it) publishes the official “Procedures for the entry, residence, and enrollment of international students and the recognition of their academic qualifications.”
Students—Italian or foreign—may be admitted to the first academic year if they hold one of the following qualifications:
-
A U.S. High School diploma accompanied by successful completion of at least three Advanced Placement (AP) courses, one of which must be in Italian and the other two in subjects related to the intended university degree program;
-
A U.S. High School diploma with successful completion of four AP courses in subjects not related to the intended degree program. If one of the AP courses is in Italian, it will be accepted for all university programs.
In this case, the diploma must also be followed by at least one year of academic study at an accredited university, qualifying the student for admission to the second academic year; -
A U.S. High School diploma followed by at least two years of academic study at an accredited university, qualifying the student for admission to the third academic year. This academic integration is considered valid even if completed at institutions in another country. In such cases, the relevant academic authorities will evaluate the adequacy of the academic path, which must not be shorter than one year.
For those applying to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, passing the IMAT (International Medical Admissions Test) is required.
Students who are Italian citizens and residents of the United States may enroll directly with the university in Italy. Foreign students, however, must submit their application through this Consulate General.
Enrollment deadlines will be published in a timely manner on this website.
