Fare Cinema" initiative, 2020 edition (15-21 june)

Fare Cinema

Rome, June 12, 2020.

The third edition of "Fare Cinema", an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) with the goal of promoting Italian cinema and the Italian film industry in the world will take place from June 15 to 21, 2020,

The initiative is realized in collaboration with RAI, MiBACT, ICE-Agency, Istituto Luce-Cinecittà and ANICA. For the very first time it will be distributed entirely in digital format all over the world on the RaiPlay platform, thanks to the collaboration between MAECI and RAI.

The billboard offers an unprecedented array of content dedicated to the Italian cinema and film industry, subtitled in English, French and Spanish: masterclasses of two great Italian cinema experts (Gianni Canova and Gianfranco Angelucci), videolessons from cinema professionals, films and short films to celebrate Italian cinema and its professions. Actors, directors and screenwriters, but also editors, directors of photography, composers, costume designers, set designers, casting directors and many others. They are all part of a heritage of competence and professionalism that contributes to confering the high cultural content that is recognized in our cinema throughout the world and which constitutes a real added value of cinema “Made in Italy".

"Fare Cinema" will also be an opportunity to celebrate two important anniversaries in 2020: the 100th anniversary of Federico Fellini and Alberto Sordi birth.

During the "Fare Cinema" initiative Italy will also celebrate on June 20 the first World Day of Italian cinema, deliberated by Parliament last December. The celebration will also provide an opportunity to watch on RaiPlay the five "Best short film" of the David di Donatello 2020 Awards.

"This year's edition of "Fare Cinema" - says Marina Sereni, Deputy Minister with responsibility for promoting Italian culture in the world - is special. Among other things, Covid took away the joy and pleasure of spending an evening at a movie-theatre to watch a film together. Bringing back the magic and emotions that you feel while going to the cinema is not easy, but it has to be done, to safeguard an art form that has made and makes our country great in the world. The films, short films, master classes and video lessons that we will present in this entirely digital initiative, and the tribute to Alberto Sordi and Federico Fellini for the 100th anniversary of their birth, represent an extraordinary heritage of culture, professionalism and skills that characterize our film and audiovisual industry, which we absolutely do not want it to disperse. Culture will indeed have a central role in projecting a new and stronger narrative of Italy in the world to restart after the health emergency. A narrative that hinges also upont the cinema industry, that has always been a formidable promotion instrument for our country".
