VITAL STATISTICS OFFICE

(births, marriages, civil union, deaths, divorces)

BEFORE REQUESTING ANY REGISTRATION PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR OWN BIRTH CERTIFICATE HAS BEEN REGISTERED TO YOUR COMUNE, AS THIS EFFECTS YOUR CITIZENSHIP.

The Italian citizen who is temporally abroad must communicate to his/her Italian consulate all Vital Statistics events happened in that territory in order to register them in Italy.

This Consulate in Miami can only register certificates issued in this consular jurisdiction.

Only Italians resident in the territory under our jurisdiction, and AIRE registered, can request the registration of acts issued in another jurisdiction. In this case, please check with the website of the consulate competent for the area in which the event happened.

In addition, the translation of those certificates must be legalized by that competent consulate.

GENERAL INFORMATION COMMON TO ALL REQUESTS.

CERTIFICATES ISSUED IN COUNTRIES/STATES NOT UNDER JURISDICTION

These documents can be given here for the registration in Italy, only if the original consulate has certified the translation, through the apposition of a stamp on the back of the certificate.

CERTIFIED COPY

When we request a certified copy, it has to be certified NOT BY A NOTARY, but it has to be an “original copy” issued by the institution who has the original. In this case, the apostille will be issued on the signature of the clerk who certified the copy.

APOSTILLE

The Apostille represents the legalization of the marriage certificate and it is recognized internationally by all the countries which are signatories to Hague Apostille Convention of 1961 (pls find below the addresses of the Authorities that issue the Apostille)
N.B. In this consular jurisdiction, only Jamaica did not sign Hague Convention, so the act of marriage has to be legalized by a clerk of the local Ministry for Foreign Affairs whose signature will be legalized by the Honorary Consul of Italy in Jamaica.

See the link on apostille Information on Apostille

DOCUMENTS FORMAT

If the certificate is a document other than A4, and/or printed on both side, and/or with glued attachments, please provide a copy of each side on a single face sheet.

DOCUMENTS SENDING

We don’t give appointment at front desk, as the documents have to be mailed. It’s up to you if you want to use any tracking service.

FEES

The transmissions of your documents to your Comune are free of charges.

LEGALIZATION OF TRANSLATION FOR DOCUMENTS TO BE PRESENTED TO OTHER CONSULATES OR DIRECTLY TO THE COMUNE.

In case you have to present documents formed in this jurisdiction to other Italian consulates or directly to your comune, please prepare the documents as explained in our website, and send them along with your request, the related money order and a prepaid and pre-addressed envelop, for the devolution.
